Terms of use

Last updated: 8 August 2026

Short version: OSSDrop is free to browse and free to list on. List real open-source projects, be decent to other people, and don't try to game the rankings. That's most of it.

Using OSSDrop

You can browse everything without an account. An account lets you upvote, comment, post in the forum, and submit tools. You're responsible for what you post and for keeping your login details safe. Don't impersonate other people or projects.

What can be listed

OSSDrop lists open-source software only: the project must have a public repository and an OSI-approved licence, and the link must point at the open-source project itself — not a paid product, a landing page, or a referral funnel. Descriptions should be honest and plain. See how to submit.

Rankings can't be bought

Rankings come from real engagement — upvotes and comments from signed-in people, plus live repository stars. Promoted and boosted placements affect visibility only, are always clearly labelled, and never change ranking position. OD points are earned through participation; they are not for sale. Awards, once earned for a completed day or week, are permanent and are never reassigned.

Don't do this

  • Vote manipulation — fake accounts, vote rings, or automated voting.
  • Spam, scraping the site at volume, or submitting projects you know are misleading.
  • Harassment, hate speech, or posting other people's private information.
  • Uploading malware, or breaking/probing the service.

We may remove listings or content that break these rules, and suspend accounts that do it repeatedly. We aim to be un-gatekept, not defenceless.

Who owns what

You keep ownership of what you write and submit; you grant us permission to display it on OSSDrop. Every listed tool remains under its own licence and belongs to its own authors — a listing here implies no endorsement in either direction. The curated list's data is public domain (CC0) and lives in the list repository on GitHub.

No warranty

OSSDrop is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. We verify links, licences, and star counts in good faith, but we can't guarantee any third-party tool is safe, maintained, or fit for your purpose — evaluate anything you install yourself. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damages arising from use of the site or of tools found through it.

Availability

It's a free service run by a nonprofit. We may change or interrupt features, and we'll try not to break things that people rely on.

Changes

If these terms change meaningfully, we'll update the date above. Continuing to use the site means the new terms apply.
